The core of the 808nm laser lies in its "precision strike."
Targeted Absorption: The 808nm wavelength light has an excellent absorption rate for melanin in hair follicles.
Energy Conversion: When the laser irradiates the skin, the light energy penetrates the epidermis to reach the dermis. The melanin in the hair follicle absorbs this energy and converts it into heat.
Thermal Damage: Localized high temperatures (usually above 65°C) can cause coagulative necrosis of the hair follicle germinal cells, thus preventing hair regrowth.
808nm is known as the "gold standard wavelength" primarily because it achieves a perfect balance between penetration depth and absorption efficiency:
Penetration Depth: 808nm can penetrate deep into the dermis, reaching the hair follicle roots in most areas (such as the armpits, back, and limbs).
Epidermal Protection: Compared to 755nm (Alexandrite laser), 808nm has a slightly lower absorption rate for melanin in the skin's surface, meaning it is more suitable for darker skin tones and less likely to cause burns. Hemoglobin Avoidance: Its wavelength effectively avoids the absorption peak of hemoglobin in the blood, reducing damage to capillaries.
To improve efficiency and comfort, modern 808nm devices typically have two modes:
* **Targeted Mode (HR):** High energy, short pulses, suitable for treating stubborn, dense localized hair.
* **In-Motion Mode:** Low energy density, high frequency (e.g., 10Hz), accumulating heat through repeated gliding across the skin. This mode is extremely painless and is commonly known as "ice point hair removal."
